Excitement builds for Pride return

Queens Park is set to be transformed into a festival of colour this Saturday as Swindon & Wiltshire Pride brings a new Pride Picnic event to the town, sponsored by Nationwide Building Society.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Pride marches in the UK, and a vibrant parade will signal the start of the day of celebrations, beginning at 11:30 from the Parade, it will pass the town hall and upto Queens Park where the centerpiece picnic will take place until 6pm.

Phoenix Stewart, community engagement officer at Swindon and Wiltshire Pride, said: “This is an important anniversary for pride marches here in the UK, and it’s a popular and exciting event to be part of. It will be a march with like-minded people who are proud of their sexuality and gender identity, and a sign that prejudice has no place in our community.”

Local charities including the Samaritans will feature, plus a youth zone with Out of the Can and a glitter stall. In the main picnic area there will be, food stalls and a lineup of entertainment including Adam All & Apple Derrieres, Khalysis, Snowwhite Trash, DJ Nehmi and Camilla Lewington.

Capacity in the park is limited so those without tickets may be required to queue to get in.

The Official After Party event will keep the night going from 7pm at Boom Battle Bar in Regent Circus with a night of drag artists and singers.

Phoenix continued: “So many businesses, artists and volunteers have been working hard to bring this event together, and we’re excited to see it finally here. This weekend is set to be a hot one so please bring your sunlotion, hats and plenty of water.”
